The Yardies are a six piece band from the San Francisco Bay area. They got together in 1990 and have released two CD's, California Reggae and Lost Tribe of America and are currently recording material for their third release.

The band has earned recognition and high honors over the past decade for their "Yardie Parties" such as the legendary Crow's Nest beach parties, the midnight SF Bay cruises, and the three Fillmore appearances with Steel Pulse, Toots and the Maytals and Aswad. They have shared the stage with The Wailers, Jimmy Cliff, Dennis Brown, Sugar Minott, Third World, Lucky Dube, Ini Kamoze, The Itals, Pato Banton, Franky Paul, Eek-a-Mouse, and others.

Two of their songs, The Lone Ranger and Give A Little More, are featured in the movie "Foreign Correspondents" which aired on Showtime in the fall of 2002.

Reviews

"...With the band laying down a smooth R&B tinged, reggae lover's-rock groove behind him, [ lead vocalist Michael] Lucas quickly had the women out on the dance floor...The combination of the laid-back rhythms, Lucas's smooth vocals, and the soft lights set a warm vibe." - Michael Datcher, SF Magazine.

"...Strident, reality based rockers like "Ain't Got to Be Like This" and "The Whole Truth" grab you with pulsating rhythm... and lover's rock originals "You Really Got Me Going" and "Bad for You" sound heartfelt. Although some songs like "Never Gonna Leave" have a decidedly R&B feel, they never leave the reggae arena as even some JA artists do when they go for the crossover. The harmonies are right on and there's plently of bass and drums in the mix, making this one of those so-called "local band" releases that surpasses the limiting category to meet the majors on their own turf." - Chuck Foster, Beat Magazine contributing writer and host of "Reggae Beat" on KCRW-FM.
